HISTORY
OF UK SLOT RACING
Model
car racing started the day after Fred Flintstone invented
the wheel!
Based
on the concept of a 1/32nd scale car with a guide
that goes in a slot, in a track, with metal
braids on either side of the slot to feed the 12 volt
current to a small electric motor in the car, slot
car racing has been enjoyed by generations of children
and adults world wide through the purchase
of home sets such as Scalextric, Ninco, Fly &
SCX. It is generally accepted that the modern concept
of Slot Car Racing on pro tracks originated in Southport,
Lancashire, England where it was developed
by Charlie Fitzpatrick of Betta & Classic. Steve
Ogilvie Tracks of Canada has taken the hobby to yet
another level from the early days.
In
the UK, and world wide, there are many model car raceways
& clubs devoted to racing model cars.
Cars are constructed tointernational rules and regulations,
and in the open classes represent the very
latest in sophisticated technology. The fastest cars
are capable of speeds up to 100mph.
Model
car racing is an attractive hobby for both the young
and adult enthusiast, helps develop good
hand eye co-ordination and promotes good sportsmanship
and fairplay. Race fans with an enquiring
mind can develop cars to find that racing edge in
an interactive sport which is fun, exciting and affordable.
